To export a copy of your course (so you can import it into Canvas) the first step is to enter your course's Control Panel.

Enter the Control Panel

Under the Course Options, select Export Course.

Select Export

Click the button that says Export.

Select Export

Check All Checkboxes and Submit

The next screen will allow you to choose which course elements you want to include in your Export file. Just to be safe, it's best to check all the checkboxes.

Note: You will encounter a similar screen in Canvas during the Import process that will let you choose which of these course elements you want to import into your new course. You can always exclude certain items during that process.

Wait for Confirmation Email

Blackboard will begin creating an Export file for you and will send you an email confirmation when it's done. This process can take a few minutes for small courses to over an hour for very large courses. Just watch for the email in your inbox before you move to the next step.

Wait for Confirmation Email

Return to the Export Course Screen

Once you receive the confirmation email, return to Control Panel > Export Course and you will find a downloadable ZIP file. Clicking on it will download it to your computer.

Keep the File in a Safe Place

Once the file is downloaded to your computer, save it somewhere you will remember it (like your Desktop or Documents folder) so you can later import it into Canvas.
