I was raised in Marin County, California and I was graduated from the University of California at San Diego in 1984. I worked for several years in the computer field before returning to school where I received my Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree with honors from the California College of Podiatric Medicine in 1993.

I completed a 24-month podiatric surgical residency at Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Hayward, California and I began an academic career in podiatry in 1996 at the California College of Podiatric Medicine (now the California School of Podiatric Medicine at Samuel Merritt University based in Oakland). In 1998, I became board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics and Primary Podiatric Medicine.

I practice full-time academic podiatry with interests in general podiatry, diabetic foot care and musculoskeletal imaging of the foot and ankle.

My outside interests include fitness, golf, hiking and travel.
