H1N1 Information

H1N1 UpdateSamuel Merritt University administration is monitoring the H1N1 flu (swine flu) virus and working closely with local, state and national public health officials as well as with Sutter Health.  The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is projecting that more communities will be affected by the H1N1 influenza throughout this year.

To keep the SMU community informed, the Health and Wellness Center of the University and the SMU emergency response team will continue to provide information and guidelines.  A University H1N1 webpage has been created, and the link can be found on the homepage of the SMU website.  The site contains informational resources as well as a special reporting form to notify appropriate SMU personnel that you are experiencing flu symptoms.

All SMU students, faculty, or staff who are experiencing "flu-like symptoms" are required to submit an online report using the website link, AND follow the usual reporting procedure of informing their supervisor/clinical and/or coordinator/program chair.   Information collected will be used to determine if there is a need to cancel classes or clinical experiences, or close the University.  All information will be treated as confidential according to appropriate FERPA and HIPPA regulations.

Announcements and notification emails will be sent by the Office of the President using the H1N1 Update announcement to alert the entire SMU community of educational programs, emergency plans, and tips and recommendations for keeping the community healthy.

Samuel Merritt University urges students, faculty, and staff to stay informed of the latest developments regarding H1N1.  As information is constantly changing, please continue to read the SMU H1N1 Update and webpage, Sutter Health H1N1 information resources, and regularly monitor the CDC  and the World Health Organization (WHO) for the most up to date information about H1N1.
