Letter from the Editor

In the nine months since becoming a University, the school has repositioned itself to be the top health sciences institution in the country. Student enrollment has increased exponentially. Facilities remodeling projects have begun. New clinical research, emergency protocols, and implementing a diversity strategy is underway. Despite today's economic downturn, the University has received grants to fund academic programs and attract underrepresented populations.

In this Fall edition of eNews we begin with new faculty learning the 'SMU Way' at faculty orientation. Find out the latest information on H1N1, and how the University is keeping you informed and protected. Discover why the California School of Podiatric Medicine (CSPM) has asked a Harvard professor to teach second year students, and what it means for the profession. Learn what admission counselors and the new Director of Diversity are doing to enroll a more diverse group of students. Read what some students went through during their time in South America and how being fluent in Espanol has its advantages. And don't forget to checkout the latest gallery of photos, you may be in it!

As we continue to broaden our communications by showcasing innovative, academic programs, and the educational work we do inside and outside of the SMU community, ideas or suggestions for future eNews articles are always welcome.

Thank you.
