Potential Podiatry Students Absorb CSPM Culture

The Office of Admission and the California School of Podiatric Medicine hosted the inaugural CSPM Immersion Week this summer.  Fifteen college sophomores and juniors participated in an all-inclusive week to learn about podiatric medicine and surgery.  Students were selected from a strong applicant pool and represented institutions such as the University of California - Los Angeles, Georgetown University, Florida State University, New York University, Syracuse University, and Spelman College, to name a few. 

Throughout the week the guests had the privilege of engaging with faculty and staff on both the Oakland and San Francisco campuses.  The participants attended podiatry lectures, a Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) session, courtesy of Kaplan, simulation and anatomy lab demonstrations.  The students experienced the clinical side of podiatry with hands-on demonstrations of suturing, casting, and shadowing at Saint Mary's Medical Center with Dr. David Tran and third year CSPM students. 

The students also had the opportunity to attend an Oakland A's baseball game and enjoyed a tour of San Francisco.  The majority of the participants had no prior knowledge of the profession and the feedback was very positive, both in terms of interest in podiatry as a future profession and an interest in attending the California School of Podiatric Medicine.
