Story Ideas About SMU Community Welcome During eNEWS Hiatus

Samuel Merritt University's eNEWS is published six times per year-in February, March, April, September, October and November. During the upcoming summer hiatus of eNEWS, we will continue to publish news about Samuel Merritt University on our website.

The newly reorganized Newsroom page has showcased more than 25 news articles since January, covering faculty and student achievements, community participation, medical missions, and campus events. Links to the first three stories in the Newsroom appear on the homepage of the SMU website. The website receives approximately 50,000 visitors a month. In addition, we often highlight our stories by posting them on our social media networks.

We encourage the SMU community to continue sharing your story ideas with the Office of the President. The following criteria guide our content selections:

  • Balanced coverage among stories in each issue highlighting the University's academic programs.
  • Stories that illustrate the University's mission, goals and strategic objectives are a priority with particular emphasis on the following institutional goals:
    • Achieve national recognition as a premier health sciences institution in clinical education
    • Promote a culture that is diverse, equitable and inclusive.
  • Stories that illustrate the vibrancy of the University, both in terms of scholarship and community outreach.
  • Short stories that provide readers high quality SMU news several times throughout the year. Articles should not exceed 500 words, preferably 350 words.
