You know it's May when students are huddled in the library and study halls with their heads nestled in their books, faculty rush to grade semester exams, and staff across the College are busy with end of year activities and events. Yes, it's graduation time. For most Samuel Merritt College (SMC) students, the time spent in classrooms and clinical rotations has come down to this moment of celebration and sense of achievement: they are preparing to graduate on May 23 and 24!
In this edition of eNEWS, find out who is giving this year's ceremonial addresses, and which program is keeping with a 96 year old pinning tradition. Also learn about the vision of the new managing director at the San Mateo Learning Center (SMLC), and why one staff member is encouraging others to take a step in combating AIDS.
The Spring/Summer issue shares the story of CSPM students who took their clinical skills to help survivors of Hurricane Katrina, and DPT students who are talking to local pre-teens about a healthcare profession in Physical Therapy. Read about the latest accreditation and EOW news, how SMC is teaming up with the City of Oakland to increase the healthcare workforce, and why the Health Science Simulation Center is hitting the cable circuit.
Enjoy these stories that tell how SMC is making a difference. As always, ideas or suggestions for future eNEWS articles are welcome.
Thank you.
