SMU Lights up San Mateo Learning Center

When it comes to signage, how big is big enough?  For the San Mateo Learning Center (SMLC) located off of South Amphlett Boulevard, 25 square feet is about right, according to the Samuel Merritt University Facilities Department. 

On May 1, the University's new name and logo was drilled to the side of the learning campus building.  According to Maurice Borden, Assistant Director of Facilities, the signage is constructed of durable plastic and uses the Halo lighting system.

"Halo lighting is cheaper, safer, and easier to work with than comparable neon light sources.  Halo lights work by projecting white or colored lights onto a background – the fitting surface where your sign or display panel is mounted.  The lights come on from dust to dawn and the signage can be seen from Highway 101."  

SMLC officially opened its doors to students in the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program in October 2007.  This June the learning center will welcome 48 ABSN students who are signed up to complete the 12 month program of intensive nursing theory courses and clinical education.  (Click to view the other Remote Learning Center enrollment numbers.)

The 12,000 square-foot facility, which was funded by grants from the East Bay Community Foundation, Kaiser Permanente, and Betty Irene Moore Nursing Initiative, has two classrooms, a 12-bed skills lab, 10 private faculty offices, a computer lab/library, a conference room, and a break room.
