Please see the map, outlining several available options for access to the HEC building:

  1. Pedestrian crosswalk is moved up closer on Hawthorne Avenue (see attached map). DPR installed a “crosswalk” midway between Elm and Summit to facilitate access to the HEC.  There will be a flagman stationed at this location to assist pedestrians. At the end of each day (when the flagman is off duty) there will be a fence on either side of the crosswalk to clearly identify the path of travel. It will look similar to what is currently installed along the north side of Hawthorne in front of the HEC.
  2. A van pick-up service will be available in front of Providence Pavilion (3100 Summit). The purpose of the van service is to transport individuals who might find it difficult to walk to the HEC building. Someone from the valet support staff at this location will drive such individuals to the HEC building.
  3. At the Merritt Garage there will be ten (10) designated parking spaces available on the C-level for visitors requiring mobility assistance. From this location visitors can go through the gate into the alley behind the HEC and enter the HEC through the double doors in the back. A security officer will be posted in this area between 7:15 AM and 7:00 PM and will be available to those requiring assistance. To exit the garage, parking vouchers (valid for 1-3 hours only) are available from the HEC front desk.
  4. For wheelchair assistance:   Please note that the wheelchair van is too tall for the Merritt Garage.  For assistance, call the security office by dialing extension 7847 from an internal phone; the external number is (510) 763-4001. A security officer will assist by pushing the wheelchair between Providence and the HEC.

BART Road Closure at MacArthur Station
Oakland's MacArthur BART Station will begin reconstruction of the sidewalk where Shuttle service usually occurs.  For this reason, beginning August 10th, the ABSMC Shuttle Service for lines 1, 2, 3, and 4 will be affected temporarily.  Drop off and pick up times will remain the same.  However, the regular BART drop off and pick up will occur along the south side of 40th Street.
