The purpose of this new procedure is to establish Parking and Security operations of parking areas (surface lots) for Samuel Merritt University (SMU) during events. Security will control traffic flow into the parking area and will mitigate potential risk to the users.
- Request for SMU related event parking:
- Requests to have the Armgate raised are only applicable to the upper and lower Peralta lots. These requests should be submitted to the Facilities Department at least two (2) weeks prior to the date requested. This two week notices allows for ABSMC Parking Services approval. Requests for weekend events are most likely not to be denied by Parking Services, but still require two week advance notice. The following should be included in the email:
- Date of the event;
- Location of the event
- Time the gate is to opened and closed;
- Type of event;
- The approximate number of vehicles or participants;
- Name of the requestor;
- Cost center.
- A Security Officer will be scheduled to be posted in the lot from beginning of the event until the event ends, for the purpose of providing directions/escorts if needed and to secure the parking area. The cost to have the Armgate raised is at a pay rate of ($25.00) per hour and will be charged to your department the cost center.
- In the event of short notice, requests made without (7) seven business day notice, will require the same information and approval. Cost charged to the cost center would be ($35.00) Thirty-five dollars per hour.
- Requests to have the Armgate raised are only applicable to the upper and lower Peralta lots. - Security duties
- Upon approval Security Operations Center will be notified of the event.
- A Security Officer will be scheduled to the post. Security staff assigned to the post will ensure the required gate is open/closed at the designated time. The Officer will remain in the parking area until relieved or the event is completed. To mitigate any criminal activity in the area Officers will patrol the parking area designated, being highly visible providing escorts in and out the lot.
Officers will report and be vigilante in observations of;
- Person(s) in distress;
- Suspicious person(s) or activity in the parking areas;
- Evidence of criminal activity.
