Dr. Christine Vourakis retired as Professor Emeritus from Samuel Merritt University after 23 years in 2006. She is currently a Professor at California State University, Sacramento. She has been involved in the mental health and addictions field for over 30 years as a clinician, teacher, and researcher. She is a certified addictions registered nurse (CARN). Her research interests include pain and addiction, outcomes of adolescent substance abuse treatment, and health policy. She is the Editor of the Journal of Addictions Nursing, the official journal of the International Nurses Society on Addictions. Dr. Vourakis has a special interest in theory and has been active in model and theory development. Her hobbies and leisure activities include gardening, hiking, kayaking and writing.
