I have been an RN since 1979 and an NP in Geriatrics since 1996.  I came to academia full time in 2001.  I live in a small community in the bay area on the water with my husband and old dog.  I enjoy camping, hiking, backcountry backpacking, good food, and just life in general.  I am a native to California and the north bay.  I was born in Napa and grew up in Yountville.

Courses Taught at Samuel Merritt University:

I am currently the Program Director for the pre licensure portion of the ELMS program in Oakland and Sacramento.  I teach several foundational courses; Pathophysiology and Pharmacology, Adult/Older Adult Med Surg, Clinical Internship, and Leadership as well as manage the students through the first 4 semesters of the prelicensure portion of the ELMSN program.

I also coordinate with the program directors of the Family Nurse Practitioner and Case Management programs. I am actively involved in the interview process on both campuses of the new potential students.

Research Interests:

My research interests involve self care practices in the future health care professional.  I am currently working with two other faculty members in the school of nursing on implementing a simple self care practice in the student population.

My other area of interest is in the development of mentorships for new faculty. I am currently completing my doctorate using a qualitative method of case study that addresses the needs of faculty who are experts in their field of nursing but new to academia.

Professional and Community Service and Professional Memberships:

I am a member of the ANA and Sigma Theta Tau.

I work in a non profit cancer prevention organization called the Bay Area Tumor Institute helping to manage cancer prevention trials. Currently I am involved in the LEAP trial and Vitamin D prevention trial.

I am trained as a teacher in a moving meditation practice called the 5 Rhythms the work of Gabrielle Roth.  I work with this practice in overt as well as unspoken ways to bring an understanding to the chaos that is healthcare today.
