Describe yourself in 10 words or less.
Why did you choose SMU?
I came from one of SMU's sister schools, St. Mary’s. I chose that school because I heard about the 2+2 program from my mom’s co-worker. I felt that it was the fastest way and a guaranteed way for me to pursue my dream of becoming a nurse.
When did you decide that you wanted to pursue a career in health sciences?
I was not really sure what I wanted to do until my junior year in high school. I always said I did not want to do nursing because I felt like I would be doing it just because my mom did it. However, I volunteered at a local hospital in my hometown during my junior year of high school and I fell in love with what the nurses were doing and how they interacted with their patients. From that point on, I knew I wanted to become a nurse.
What's your favorite thing to do when you are not in class or studying?
My friends and I love to just relax. We spend so much time studying, so we usually spend our free time going out to new restaurants, shopping, or just talking. Also, we love to catch up on our TV shows when we can.
What has been your favorite class or experience?
My favorite class has been med-surge and med-surge clinical. It was the first time I actually felt like a nurse. I learned new skills and ways to take care of patients. Also, I loved so many of the professors and clinical instructors we had for med-surge.
What is one thing you'd like to tell a new student just entering your program?
I would tell them that they are going to go through many new experiences that might seem intimidating at first, but are so fulfilling when you complete them. Also, I would tell them to always remember that they are studying for a career that is very rewarding and is worth all the hard work they are going to do.
