Describe yourself in 10 words or less.
I'm an easy going person that is passionate about helping others.
Why did you choose SMU?
I initially chose SMU because of the location, but after entering the program here I'm glad I chose SMU because the faculty here are invested in student learning. The coursework is difficult and sometimes hard to grasp, but the Occupational Therapy faculty here are always willing to provide additional support to students that seek help.
What has been your favorite class or experience?
My most memorable experiences occurred during the SMU Occupational Therapy Adult Clinic. Working with real clients in the clinic was definitely an eye-opening experience. It was there that I truly saw how Occupational Therapy students, like myself, could improve the health and wellness of our clients by engaging them in occupations of their choosing.
What's your favorite thing to do when you are not in class or studying?
When I'm not in class or studying I enjoy spending time with my boyfriend, friends, and family while eating delicious foods or learning important life lessons.
We understand that you were the Treasurer for SOTA (Student Occupational Therapy Association). Can you tell us a little bit about what this entails?
I was the SOTA Treasurer for the 2012-2013 school year. As treasurer I was responsible for maintaining the finances for SOTA and the SBA funds provided to each of the occupational therapy classes. I budgeted funds for SOTA events, and ensured that all students were reimbursed for SOTA expenses.
What is one thing you'd like to tell a new student just entering your program?
The Occupational Therapy program at SMU is definitely challenging and time consuming, but it is important to set aside some time to focus on yourself. Give yourself a break from the daily school grind by doing something that makes you happy!
