Samuel Merritt University is continuing to monitor recommendations regarding the H1N1 influenza virus through Center for Disease Control (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO) publications. We also will monitor the status of H1N1 in Alameda County, Sacramento County, San Francisco County and San Mateo County. You will be updated with new information specifically relevant to SMU as it becomes available. Samuel Merritt University Health and Wellness Center and the SMU emergency response team will monitor the campuses and local situations, in consultation with the appropriate public health department, and make recommendations for the campus community based on flu activity.
If you are experiencing flu-like symptoms, STAY HOME! Please report your illness according to the usual procedure determined by your Program/Department Chair or Supervisor and to Student Health Services (510-869-6629).
CDC recommends that individuals with influenza-like illness remain at home and away from other people until at least 24 hours after they are free of fever (100° F [37.8° C] or greater), or signs of a fever, without the use of fever-reducing medications.
In the event of student illness requiring absence for a prolonged period, the University is committed to working with students to ensure timely completion of classroom instruction or clinical work required to fulfill course and graduation requirements.
