Connecting to 'smu_lawn' Mac OS 10.6.8

Click on the Airport utility (top right hand corner) and select 'Open Network Preferences…'

In the 'Network' window, make sure you enable airport if it isn't by clicking on the 'Turn Airport On'. If it is on, go ahead and click on the 'Advanced...' button on the bottom.

While in the AirPort tab, make sure you remove any previous connections you may have to smu_lawn.  You can do this by highlighting the network you want to remove and clicking on the minus symbol (" – ")

Next, click on the 802.1x tab at the top. Again, we will want to remove all profiles you see here. Go ahead and click on any profile to highlight it and remove it with the minus symbol button (" – "). Once that is done, go ahead and add a new profile by pressing on the plus symbol (next to the minus symbol). Select "Add User Profile".

Below you can see we added a profile and named it "SMU Lawn". Fill out the profile with the SMU credentials you normally use and press 'OK'.

User Name: SMU Username (first.last)

Password: SMU Password

If you select "Always prompt for password" you will have to provide your password each time you connect. We don't recommend this setting.

Authentication: Deselect all protocols and make sure LEAP is checked (see image below). You may have to scroll to see the LEAP option.

Wireless Network: Click on the down arrow and select the SMU LAWN network that corresponds with your location. (see below)

  • Oakland: smu_lawn
  • Sacramento: smu_lawn_sac
  • San Mateo: smu_lawn_san

Security Type: WPA2 Enterprise

Press OK

Next, you will select the corresponding smu_lawn network near you and click 'Connect'.

A new window will pop up. You don't have to provide your username and password as we have already done this. From the drop down menu under '802.1X:' select the profile you just created.

Press OK and you should be connected to the SMU_lawn and it should look like below!
