Setting Room Preferences for Oakland Classes in EMS Campus

Access to Courses

Logging in to EMS Campus Web Client

  1. Using a web browser from anywhere, go to https://roomreq.samuelmerritt.edu/EMSCampus/TermSelector.aspx
  2. If prompted, enter your SMU username and password.

Selecting the academic term

  1. Once you have logged in, highlight the academic term in which you will be working (e.g. 2014/FALL)
  2. Click ‘Save’ in the lower right portion of the window

Viewing the list of Courses

To view the list of courses, click the ‘Academic Browser’ menu option at any time.

Phase I – Course Scheduling

As of January 2012, phase I is completed using a traditional worksheet method.  Instructions are provided by the Office of the Registrar.

Phase II - Setting Room Preferences

Indicate courses for which no room is required

All non-clinical course sections which do not require physical meeting space must be identified.  If not, the system will attempt to book a room for the course section.

  1. Open the course section by double clicking on the course section in the list of courses
  2. Under ‘Course Dates’ click on the start date of the first meeting pattern listed
  3. Check the box to the right of the ‘Room Not Required’ label.
  4. Click ‘Save’
  5. Repeat for subsequent meeting patterns as needed.

Indicate specific room requirements for specific courses

  1. Open the course section by double clicking on the course section in the list of courses
  2. Under ‘Course Dates’ click on the start date of the first meeting pattern listed
  3. Select the required building
  4. Select the required room under ‘Room 1’ and check the ‘Required’ box.
  5. Click ‘Save’

Note: this feature is limited to specific rooms and departments based on past history

Indicate building preference

  1. Open the course section by double clicking on the course section in the list of courses
  2. Under ‘Course Dates’ click on the start date of the first meeting pattern listed
  3. Select the preferred building
  4. Click ‘Save’

Indicate room type preference

  1. Open the course section by double clicking on the course section in the list of courses
  2. Under ‘Course Dates’ click on the start date of the first meeting pattern listed
  3. Select the preferred room type
  4. Click ‘Save’

Indicate Room preference

  1. Open the course section by double clicking on the course section in the list of courses
  2. Under ‘Course Dates’ click on the start date of the first meeting pattern listed
  3. Select the preferred building
  4. Select the preferred room under ‘Room 1’; repeat for ‘Room 2’ and ‘Room 3’ if necessary
  5. Click ‘Save’

Note: specific room preference does not guarantee assignment

Notes to the room scheduling coordinator

Any special instructions or other notes that need to go to the HEC staff can be placed in the ‘Notes’ field

Features DO NOT SELECT FEATURES DURING THIS PROCESS.  Most SMU classrooms are already furnished with appopriate technology for instruction.  If additional features are required in your classroom, please contact the HEC to coordinate additional services.

HSSC Bookings

All HSSC bookings should be coordinated directly with the HSSC staff
