2011 - Upcoming Health Science Simulation Workshops
March 5, 2011 - Ultrasound Guided Central Line Placement – Understanding and Application in EGDT of Sepsis. This course is designed for health care providers who are on the front line of early diagnosis and treatment of sepsis. The focus will be on ultrasound guides placement of central lines; it will include a didactic session and many opportunities for hands-on learning, including high-fidelity manikin-based simulation.
May 21 & 22, 2011, and October 15 & 16, 2011 - Simulation-Based Learning for Nurse Anesthetists – Anesthesia Crisis Resource Management (ACRM) sessions for educators . 2010 - Health Science Simulation Workshops and Conferences
Sim Design Within Reach – Everyone Can Simulate. A series of faculty development workshops designed specifically for the Samuel Merritt University School of Nursing faculty to assist them in integrating simulation into their curriculum. Sessions were conducted in January, February, March and April.
Simulation-Based Learning for Nurse Anesthetists – Anesthesia Crisis Resource Management (ACRM) sessions for educators. These biannual continuing education workshops are offered to anesthesia professionals and registered nurses. May and October 2010.
Personal/Small Group Tutoring Sessions. These are ongoing training for SMU faculty on how to integrate simulation methodologies into their teaching and how to use the simulators, task trainers, and related equipment available in the HSSC.
Simulation-Based RN Training for Sepsis Management. The HSSC provided a simulation-based learning workshop for the Alta Bates Summit Medical Center PACE (Partners in Advancing Clinical Excellence) Council. We trained 120 nurses in early detection and management of sepsis over a two-week period in August.
Education Management Solutions (EMS) Arcadia Summit 2010. SMU and its Health Sciences Simulation Center (HSSC) were the host site for the Third Annual Arcadia Summit in August. Approximately 70 EMS users attended the Summit to share best practices and experiences utilizing EMS.
Laerdal Customer Training. In June 2010, the HSSC was invited to become the only Certified Training Partner (CTP) for Laerdal Medical on the West Coast. After receiving training from Laerdal's Educational Services Directors, we are now approved to deliver Laerdal curriculum, with our own "HSSC signature style." Our 2010 debut as a Laerdal CTP included a SimNewB™ course in September and a SimMan® course in November 2010.
Simulation-Based Education: Building Your Toolkit. The HSSC presented SMU's bi-annual School of Nursing Faculty Development Workshop in October 2010 to more than 60 SMU nursing faculty members.
