The Samuel Merritt College Information Technology department provides trouble-shooting and other support services for cell phones, PDAs, and Smart Phones purchased by the College. We do not offer support for personal cell phones, PDAs or other devices.
Many new cell phones and other devices (such as the iPhone) are able to send/receive email, contact information, etc ... and integrate with Microsoft Exchange or 'Outlook email'. These features are standard in many new phones our email system Exchange/Outlook and integrate with them. The use of personal cell phone or PDA features and integration to the Samuel Merritt College email system is available for all active students, faculty, and staff. Although these options are available, they are not supported by College personnel. We have made these options available on our email system because they can provide great value to the SMC community.
The Samuel Merritt College Help Desk and Network Service's team do not support personal devices of any kind. There are numerous models of cell (all with different configuration options) it would be difficult for anyone to provide adequate service. Any known problem with integration to our email system will be documented and communicated. If you experience any problems with your cell phone or PDA with the integration to the Samuel Merritt College email system, they should be addressed by your cell phone vendor.
The information you will need to know to connect to our server:
- Both Incoming and Outgoing Mail server or Host name is mail.samuelmerritt.edu
- Your Network login name and password.
Put a check mark in the 'This server requires an encrypted (SSL) connection'.
