Summer computer tips; Help Desk hours

If you're planning on traveling this summer, keep these safe computing tips in mind.

  • Don't leave your laptop in the car for too long. If it's too hot for your dog, it's too hot for your computer. Excessive heat can kill your battery and cause your LCD screen to expand and break.
  • Beware sand, diet Coke and anything else that can spill on or get in your computer. This will give you a gunky, junky keyboard, could cause damage to your hard drive and worst of all, spills are not covered by the warranty.
  • Charge your battery before leaving for a trip. You never know when you'll next have access to an outlet.
  • Keep your computer in sight at all times when traveling. Use a lock and a good carrying case to protect your computer.
  • Let your computer rest. You need a vacation; your computer needs a vacation, too. Close your laptop when it's not in use.

If traveling abroad:

  • If you need to charge your laptop in a foreign country, don't forget you will need an adaptor to connect to a power outlet.
  • Be careful with your computer while travelling in foreign lands.
  • Carry your receipt with you when going abroad with your laptop. If going through customs, you might need to verify you did not purchase your computer abroad to avoid import taxes.
