Course Overview and CurriculumThe purpose of this class is to provide a foundation for the understanding of health and wellness during the high school years. The overarching goal of the class is to inform and educate teens about the potential challenges they face, and the dangers that can come from making poor decisions, such that they will be able to make more informed and healthier choices. This will help create a foundation for a happy and healthy future. The curriculum includes: discussions, group work, role-playing, instructional videos and guest lecturers that will supplement class lectures. Demonstration and instruction in use of functional coping mechanisms (i.e. stress management, time management, goal planning, communication skills, decision making) will provide individual strategies to use with personal issues. Additionally, senior year students will receive training to help lead and teach parts of the curriculum, covering substance abuse and sexuality. Other topics that will be covered include: individual learning and interpersonal styles, self-confidence and self-esteem, depression, suicide, anger management, eating disorders, stress management, exercise and sleep. Special Skills/Equipment: Typing speed and accuracy 45 wpm in order to correctly enter necessary volume of data. Ability to read, write, hear, and speak English to the degree required to perform all duties outlined in this job description.
