Job Summary:

Under the guidance of the PA program director, manage the development, coordination and evaluation of the didactic curriculum while maintaining the program and accreditation agencies standards. Serve as the liaison to the program, students, faculty and the campus community. Under the guidance of the Director of the Health Sciences Simulation Center (HSSC) and support from the PA Program Director will support simulation-based learning (SBL) and all other immersive learning modalities on the Fresno campus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

50% Program Responsibilities
• Manage the development of didactic procedures, policies, scheduling and strategies for the program. Oversee the progress of the existing curriculum; introduce new curriculum and provide a comprehensive analysis of program data. Chair the curriculum advisory committee.
• Maintain ongoing communications with didactic faculty; outline the goals of the program, curriculum and prerequisites requirements, program policies and procedures, the evaluation process, and the program objectives.
• Initiate and evaluate faculty recruitment, encourage and recommend faculty development and supervise adjunct faculty.
• Serve as the advisor to students; scheduling of events/activities, and provide appropriate intervention and feedback to those students demonstrating either academic or behavioral difficulties during didactic phase. Provide referrals where applicable.
• Assist in the development of accreditation material and documentation.

50% Health Science Simulation Center
Implement established SBL Sessions
• Observe PA faculty who are leading a SBL activity to ensure current, evidence-based standards are met.
• Act as a mentor/coach to PA faculty during a SBL activity to provide feedback and suggestions for improvement.
• Mentor faculty in effective debriefing practices that promote reflective learning.
• Collaborate with the Simulation Technology Specialist (STS) in the implementation of simulation to assure the STS is aware of the necessary tech support, the SBL plan for the session, and the required setup for the session.

Design-Develop-Implement-Evaluate new SBL Sessions
• Act as an expert resource to PA faculty in simulation-based learning (SBL) design and delivery.
• Collaborate with PA faculty to develop and implement SBL activities into their curricula.
• Use evidence-based methods/ SBL theories to design, implement, and evaluate simulation curricula including debriefing and assessment.

1. Knowledge
• Experience as an educator in a university setting or hospital
• Content expertise in a clinical specialty highly desirable; current clinical practice not required
• Experience with curriculum development
• Recent experience in teaching principles and simulation preferred. If no experience, then the candidate must have the passion and energy to learn simulation methodology and its ability to transform healthcare education.
• Excellent interpersonal and human relation skills with demonstrated success in conflict resolution and negotiation
• Demonstrates creativity and flexibility in designing innovative approaches to solving problems
• Technical expertise within an administrative and operational function
• In-depth understanding of the university services, operations and standards
• General computer applications and systems
2. Supervisory Responsibilities:
• Faculty and administrative staff

3. Abilities:
• Excellent writing and oral presentation skills
• Ability to prioritize and organize workload
• Knowledge of curriculum development and department management in higher education
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• In-depth knowledge of the roles and requirements of physician assistants

4. Education and/or Experience:
• National certification as a physician assistant
• Masters’ degree in related field. Ph.D. in a health science or related field preferred
• A minimum of four years of experience as a practicing physician assistant
• Teaching experience in higher education required and administrative experience strongly preferred

Physical Requirements
• Considerable time is spent at a desk using a computer
• Use telephone and other electronic equipment used in general university operations
• May be required to travel to other buildings and campuses
• May be required to attend conference and training sessions within Bay Area or in- or out-of-state locations
• May be required to occasionally travel
• Actively engage in continuous quality improvement of HSSC services by:

o Meeting with faculty on a periodical basis to review all curricular documents of SBL activities currently implemented
o Performing routine critical reviews with faculty of all SBL session learning objectives, confirming that they are relevant and in alignment with course learning outcomes, program learning outcomes and Institutional learning outcomes
o Facilitating active, creative brainstorming with faculty groups around other SBL activities/scenarios to consider integrating into curricula
