Obtaining Materials Not at Your Campus Library

Articles

Before requesting an article, look in the library’s Journal Finder for the title & date of the journal containing the article.

If you see:Then:
Link(s) to online content
  • Click the link to go to the full-text articles for that journal.
"In SMU Print Journals"
  • The article is available for use and photocopying in the Oakland campus library’s Journals section.
  • If you’re a learning center student:
"In SMU Warehoused Journals"
Nothing listed
  • Submit the Request Library Materials form.
  • We’ll get a free PDF of the article from another library and email it to you, usually in 2-5 business days.
Books/Recordings

Before requesting a book or recording, search for it in the library's catalog.

If the item is in the catalog
  • The detail page for the item will indicate which campus libraries have copies.
If your campus has copies but they're all checked out
  • Place a hold on the item in the catalog.
  • When a copy is returned, we’ll hold it for you and email you that you can pick it up.
If you’re a learning center student and your campus doesn’t have a copy, but the Oakland campus does
  • Place a hold on the item in the catalog.
  • We'll deliver the item to your campus library for you to pick up, usually in 2-3 business days.
If the item isn’t in the catalog
  • Submit the Request Library Materials form.
  • We’ll borrow the item from another library and email you when it arrives at your campus library for you to pick up, usually within 2 weeks.
