Course Reserve Materials
Reserve items circulate as labeled and only to Samuel Merritt University students, faculty, and staff. These items may be borrowed on a first-come, first-served basis and may be renewed if no one else is waiting to borrow the item. Two-hour reserve materials may be borrowed for overnight use if checked out less than two hours before the library closes; in this case, the item must be returned by 9:00 the following morning.
Course reading packets circulate for two hours.
Videotapes circulate for two hours and may not be taken from the library.
Laptop computers circulate for two hours and may not be taken from the library.
Renewing Library Materials
You may renew an item for one additional loan period if no one else is waiting to borrow the item. Items may be renewed in any of the following ways:

Overdue and Fines
Borrowers are responsible for knowing when their books are due and for returning them on time. As a courtesy, the library attempts to send reminders to borrowers with overdue books. The library is not responsible for non-receipt of overdue reminders, and fines will not be waived due to non-receipt of overdue notices.

After Hours Return Box
On the Oakland campus, materials may be returned during hours the Library is closed by depositing them in the orange return box located at the southwest corner of Lower Towne Court.

- Renew online by logging into your account in the library's catalog. Reserve items may not be renewed online.
- Renew over the telephone by calling the Circulation Desk at 510-869-8900.
- Bring the item to the Circulation Desk anytime the library is open.
