During summer semester 2009, Samuel Merritt University Oakland campus held its first Medical Spanish Workshops open to all SMU campuses. The workshops, which ran for six weeks every Monday from July 6th though August 3rd, were created by second year Entry Level Masters Students (ELMSN), Stephanie Bowen and Melissa Ovalles. The purpose of the workshops was twofold in that it would aid in facilitating Spanish language proficiency while at the same time be a unifying platform for all SMU student programs. The program proposal was immediately supported by Dr. Craig Elliot, Vice-President of Enrollment & Student Services and run by members of the California Nursing Students’ Association (CNSA).
