SMU Staff and Faculty Present "Creating the Virtual Classroom" at EDUCAUSE Conference
On February 12, Samuel Merritt University (SMU) Assistant Professor Patricia Brennan, Director of Informaton Technology Blair Simmons, Instructional Designer Ellie Hoffman, and Manager, Information Technology Services, Marcus Walton presented at the EDUCAUSE conference. Their presentation, Creating the Virtual Classroom, addressed the challenge online course instructors face of reducing the "distance" and creating a truly interactive learning environment. Their interactive presentation was online, and the presenters were conferenced in from SMU.
The EDUCAUSE conference took place February 12–14 in Austin, and online. This year's event theme was Strategic Impact: Partnerships and Value in a Changing World. The event focused on how we can leverage the changing landscape of technology to meet the evolving needs of higher education.
SMU's staff and faculty participation in this presentation demonstrated how divisions of SMU work together to explore and expand the University's educational repertoire. It also demonstrated that SMU is boldly breaking through the challenges by exploring new techniques to deliver instruction. A big kudos to the presenters for helping move SMU into the future of learning.
