Toward the end of “Transgender Tuesdays,” a documentary about a small San Francisco health clinic that was the nation’s first to cater to transgender clients, patient Nora VanDella wiped at her tears. She had been shuttered from mainstream hospitals for most of her life and left to feel ostracized by healthcare professionals.
“The clinic is one of the few things that gave me faith the world is not getting crueler and crueler, but there are compassionate people around,” VanDella said.
Those compassionate people – a group of young nurses, physician assistants, and therapists – are at the center of the film, which was shown to Samuel Merritt University students and faculty on campus February 20.
