Physical Therapy Association Student Legislative Day

The California Physical Therapy Association (CPTA) sponsored Student Legislative Day at the CA Capitol today (Tuesday, January 28, 2014). Today was primarily for students from five Physical Therapy (PT) programs in Northern California: UCSF/SFSU, CSU Fresno, University of the Pacific in Stockton, Sacramento State, and Samuel Merritt University.

Samuel Merritt University (SMU) second year and some third year Doctor of Physical Therapy students met with legislators to advocate for physical therapy issues in CA. Additionally, many SMU Department of Physical Therapy faculty served as mentors to the students today.

The 2014 PT Legislative Day takes place Tuesday, March 18, 2014. Over 200 physical therapists, physical therapist assistants and students are expected to attend.

The course objectives for the day include:

- Identify how a bill becomes law
- Design a comprehensive legislative strategy for the advancement of the PT profession
- Schedule meetings with legislators and their staff members who represent your home cities
