Dept of Physical Therapy Chair, Terry Nordstrom, received his EdD from the University of San Francisco after successfully defending his dissertation "Physical Therapist Students as Moral Agents During Clinical Internships." Congratulations, Dr. Nordstrom! 

Adjunct Assistant Professor Bret Kennedy received his transitional DPT from A.T. Still University of Health Sciences/ Arizona School of Health Sciences in November 2007.  Liz Slusarz was awarded her transitional DPT degree from Temple University in late May.  Congratulations, Liz and Bret!

Samuel Merritt College's Faculty Research Spring Symposium was held on May 16, and the Dept of PT was well represented with four platform presentations and one poster from DPT faculty accepted.

Dr. Rolando Lazaro will present research at the 2nd European Congress on Physiotherapy Education in September of this year.  The two presentations accepted to the conference explore the use of Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs) in orthopedic and neuromuscular PT.  Ms. Linnette Clark and Ms. Sharon Gorman, both Assistant Professors, worked on these projects in conjunction with Dr. Lazaro.

Student News

Two Samuel Merritt DPT students were awarded the Golden Gate District, APTA Student Scholarship this year.  Mona Wong and Amanda Streeton, both DPT III students, shared the scholarship this year.  Recipients are selected based on recommendations, leadership potential, and service to the profession.  Congratulations!

Case Report Presentation Day, a culminating presentation experience for graduating DPT students, was May 21.  Thirty-two graduating students presented their cases from their six month internship; for more details please see this year's topics.  We would like to thank our 7 sponsors for this year's event:
