These tutorials and tips can help you get started with various resources. Some have been created by the producers of the resources, some by library staff, and some by staff at other libraries.
Request Pre-1990 Print Journals
Print journals from 1990 to the present are housed in the main journal stacks of the Graziano Library. Print journals from 1989 and earlier are stored in the Library Annex. To request retrieval of a pre-1990 issue of a journal from the Annex, complete the Request a Journal from the Annex [7] form.
Journals are retrieved from the Annex Monday through Friday, twice a day, and are held for pick-up at the Circulation Desk for use in the library only. You will be called at the phone number you provide when the journal has been retrieved. If a retrieved journal hasn't been picked up in seven days, it will be returned to the Annex.
Request Archived Books
Certain older books are stored in the Library Archive. To request retrieval of a book from the Archive, complete the Request a Book from the Archive [8] form.
Books are retrieved from the Archive Monday through Friday, twice a day, and are held for pick-up at the Circulation Desk. You will be called at the phone number you provide when the book has been retrieved. If a retrieved book hasn't been picked up in seven days, it will be returned to the Archive.
Request Articles/Books From Non-SMC Libraries
If you need an article or book that the library doesn't have in its collection, you may request that the library obtain a copy of an article or a book from another library. This service is available to College students, faculty, and staff and to Summit Medical Center staff.
To request a copy of an article
First check the library's Print & Electronic Journals [9] to see if the article is in the library's collection. If it isn't, complete the Request an Article from a Non-SMC Library [10] form. You will be sent the article you requested via email, normally 2 to 5 days after making your request. A $2 charge will be added to your library account for each article requested.
To request a book
First check SAMMY [11], the Library's catalog, to see if the book is in the library's collection. If it isn't, complete the Request a Book from a Non-SMC Library [12] form. You will be notified via email when the book arrives in the library, normally within 2 weeks after making your request. A $2 charge will be added to your library account for each book requested.
Request Purchase of a Book/Journal
The Library considers all requests for new materials. First check SAMMY [13], the Library's catalog, or Print & Electronic Journals [14] to see if the item is in the library's collection. If it isn't, complete the Request for Book Purchase or Journal Subscription [15] form.
Loansome Doc Service for Faculty
Loansome Doc enables researchers to order documents found in PubMed. Faculty members can order articles from citations retrieved from PubMed by sending requests to their affiliated library. Please contact Huyen Ho [16] for information on registering for and using Loansome Doc.
