Doctor of Physical Therapy program at Samuel Merritt College Joins the Physical Therapist Centralized Application Service (PTCAS) for

 Fall 2009

We are pleased to announce beginning with fall 2009 all applicants for the DPT program will apply through the Physical Therapist Centralized Application Service (PTCAS).  The formal website for PTCAS will be available on August 1, 2008 and when available, we will provide a link from our website. 

Please be advised that applications will only be accepted through PTCAS and the deadline for applications is October 15, 2008.  Notifications regarding interviews (on-campus required) will be made in late December 2008 and interviews will be in January 2009.  

Applicants are advised that PTCAS will require one official transcript from each college/university attended.  GREs must be taken by September 3, 2008 in order to have scores available when completing the PTCAS application.

Minimum criteria for admission include:

• Completion of baccalaureate and all prerequisites by the end of spring term before entry; exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis
• Minimum cumulative GPA for last 60 semester units: 2.80
• Minimum pre-requisite GPA: 2.60
• Minimum GRE verbal score of 450 and minimum GRE quantitative score of 500
• Inpatient Experience: a minimum of forty (40) hours of volunteer or paid experience in an inpatient physical therapy setting is required (see below)
• Letter(s) of reference (see below)
• TOEFL (U.S. citizens or international students) - The need for TOEFL will be assessed based on information provided by applicants on the application for admission, if required, a score of 250 must be achieved and official score results must be provided.

Additional Psychology or Social Science Elective	3 semester units
Statistics	3 semester units
Chemistry with lab*	8 semester units
Physics with lab*	8 semester units
General Biology with lab*	8 semester units
Human Anatomy	3 semester units
Human Physiology	3 semester units
Exercise Physiology	3 semester units
*Prefer a standard 2-semester or 3-quarter course sequence.

 

Graduate Record Examination(GRE)

GRE scores are required by all applicants and should be submitted prior to the application deadline. Successful applicants will have a minimum GRE verbal score of 450 and a minimum GRE quantitative score of 500.
