In 2001, the Deloras Jones RN Scholarship Program was created in honor of Deloras Jones, RN, MS, for her 34 years of leadership and dedication to education and nursing practice at Kaiser Permanente. Two types of scholarships are available: the Merit Award for Excellence in Bachelor's Degree Nursing and Need-based Awards.

Professional Nurse Traineeship Grant
Samuel Merritt College has received over $60,000 in federal funds from the Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources & Services Administration for Professional Nurse Traineeship Grants.
This program is open to students who are preparing for practice as nurse practitioners and nurse anesthetists. Preference for awards is given to individuals who are residents of health professional shortage areas as designed under Section 332 of the Public Health Services Act and to those students with a demonstrated commitment to work in an undeserved area, as evidenced by their present community service activities, work and plans. Please note that part-time students taking less than nine units must be expected to graduate within the next 12 months to be eligible for the grant and only first year CRNA students are eligible for this award.
The award of a traineeship under this program does not make an individual an employee of the Public Health Service, nor is there any obligation to perform any present or future service for the Public Health Service. We encourage individuals receiving any funds from a Public Health Service Grant to discuss federal tax implications with their accountant.
Applications are reviewed and awards made by a committee comprised of representatives of the graduate nursing program and financial aid personnel. Awards will be disbursed in the form of a tuition credit.
The application must be completed and returned to the Financial Aid Office by 5 pm September 12, 2008.
The application is incomplete if the following documents are not submitted:
1. Your resumé
2. Personal Statement
3. A completed 2008/2009 FAFSA
4. Signed Commitment Statement
