February 13th, 3:30-5:30pm – Bechtel (note special timerfame - catered reception to follow)

There is a growing awareness of the impact of prejudice on education, career and health outcomes - but what about in healthcare itself? A growing body of research demonstrates the existence and impact of bias being faced both by caregivers and those receiving care. In this interactive training, participants will learn about this research and listen to and share personal stories related to bias in a healthcare setting. Led by a communications expert and a young man who can speak from his personal experience receiving care in Oakland, this training will support students in self-reflection and provide tools for addressing bias in ways that ensure all are treated with respect.

(Training limited to 75 participants on the Oakland campus – please RSVP to Katherine LeRoy, kleroy@samuelmerritt.edu)

This event will also be televised to the Sacramento (Classroom #3) and San Mateo campuses (2nd floor Video Conference Room)
