Home Page

A well-designed home page helps students feel welcome in the course, easily understand how the course is organized, and know how to find what they need.

The home page is the page students see when they click the Home link in the course navigation. A front page can be set as the home page so it is the first page students see when they enter the Canvas course. The purpose of the home page is to provide a welcoming, visually appealing, and informative experience for students. The home page may include a welcome message as text or video, images, or other information and links to help students get started or direct them to course learning materials.

Benefits

A well-designed home page helps students feel welcome in the course, easily understand how the course is organized, and know how to find what they need. It should not confuse or overwhelm students with information they do not initially need. Course orientation materials can be placed instead in a module.

Best Practice Recommendations

    • Complete the course orientation module
    • View the modules list.
