Staff Grievance- Purpose

The purpose of this procedure is to secure, at the most immediate administrative level, equitable solutions to the problems which may arise from time to time, affecting the welfare or working conditions of employees. These proceedings shall be kept confidential and as informal as possible. Every effort shall be made to expedite the process and to resolve the grievance as soon as possible. The time limits specified may be extended by mutual agreement.

Sick Leave- Purpose

Samuel Merritt University recognizes the importance to employees for time away from the workplace to balance the many activities a healthy life requires. Members of the SMU community will need time off work to recuperate from illness, injury or other health-related problems that may prevent an employee from reporting for work. Through its Sick Leave Policy, the University provides employees a mechanism whereby paid Sick Leave is offered, within appropriate requirements of the law, to avoid an interruption in work that could cause the employee considerable economic hardship.
