I have been an occupational therapist for many years. Over time, I have worked in neurorehabilitation, mental health, orthopedics, sensory integration, pediatrics, hand therapy and pre-vocational rehabilitation. I spent most of my professional career as a hand therapist and very involved with the American Society of Hand Therapists. I was president of ASHT in 2005. I joined Samuel Merritt University in 1998 as the Academic Fieldwork Coordinator, and have taught several classes, primarily focused on research, in most recent years. I graduated with my BS in OT from San Jose State University; received my master's in OT from University of Southern California; and graduated and received my OTD from Thomas Jefferson University May 2013.
I have published and presented extensively, traveled internationally for presentations at meetings in Australia, Colombia, Brazil as well as spent 3 years offering service and teaching on medical missions in Guatemala with Guatemala Healing Hands..
BS in OT, San Jose State University
MA in OT, University of Southern California, 1979
OTD in OT, Thomas Jefferson University, 2013
My interests range from sensory testing especially Semmes-Weinstein monofilaments, to orthotics, carpal tunnel syndrome to modalities, contrast baths, and patient adherence to treatment.
I taught the Charter class, 1996 as adjunct faculty to teach the class: Adaptive Technology and Modalities. I taught the class for another five years once hired full time as the Fieldwork Coordinator.
- Taught the following courses since 1996:
- Assistive Technology and Introduction to Modalities – 1996 - 2002
- Complementary Healthcare Systems in Occupational Therapy – 2002-2007
- Foundations of Occupational Therapy – 2002-2003 & 2014
- Integrative Seminar (Problem based learning) 2014 & 2015
- Research seminar (3 semester courses ) since 2007 – 2015
- Level I Fieldwork 1998 – 2007
- Level II Fieldwork 1998 - 2015
