Jane Perlas
Assistant Professor
MSN Family Nurse Practitioner

Dr. Perlas has been a practicing Family Nurse Practitioner since 1997.  She has taught for 11 years in various universities in the Bay Area.  Her teaching career started teaching medical students during their clerkship at UCSF/SFGH medicine service.  Dr. Perlas transitioned into teaching undergraduate nursing students and eventually graduate school, primarily FNP students.  She received her doctorate (Doctor in Nursing Practice, DNP) in 2010.  Dr. Perlas is experienced in both outpatient and inpatient NP role.  She is also a hospital trained acute care NP and hospitalist.  She is currently a primary care provider at SFGH General Medicine Clinic. 

Dr. Perlas earned her Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) and doctorate (Doctor of Nursing Practice, DNP) at the University of San Francisco.  She is an alumnus and received her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) at Samuel Merritt College, which is now, Samuel Merritt University.




Dr. Perlas is interested in an academic environment that provides innovative education, promote leadership and translate nursing research to best (clinical) practice.  Her teaching interest are varied.  Her work in inpatient care involves the best utilization and inclusion of nurse practitioners in the inpatient settings.  Dr. Perlas' doctoral project was on the implementation of medicine nurse practitioners as hospitalist.  She has always and continues to work with the low-income, underserved and medically disenfranchised patient population.  She likes sharing her knowledge, incorporating travel and interest in global health.  Her work in geriatric care mainly evolves from her interest in neuroplasticity and aging.
