I've been a physical therapist for more than 20 years and my area of expertise is acute care physical therapy. I'm a board certified Geriatric Clinical Specialist and also have advanced certification and training in neurodevelopmental treatment and assessment/treatment of vestibular disorders. I enjoy traveling, including global medical outreach in Haiti and Panama. I've worked in a variety of different hospitals from large academic teaching hospitals to small community hospitals throughout California.

DPTSc, University of California San Francisco/San Francisco State University
MS in Health Science, San Francisco State University
BS in Physical Therapy, Mount St. Mary's University, Los Angeles

My primary teaching interests are in acute care, neurologic physical therapy, geriatrics, and global health. I also serve as the faculty advsior to SMU's International Healthcare Club.

  • PT 703 Capstone III: Implementation

My primary research focus is exploring the psychometric properties of the Function In Sitting Test (FIST). Current projects include the determination of the predictive validity of the FIST (manuscript preparation) and fall risk associated with the FIST (study in planning stages). Learn more about the FIST here.

I'm involved in the assessment of the SMU Patient Safety & Communication Interprofessional Education initiative in conjunction with multiple other SMU faculty.

I am collaborating with PT faculty in Texas on a survey of students and their clinical instructors. We are investigating their use of outcome measures in acute care settings and during acute care clinical affliations.

Additionally, I a working on updating and revising the Acute Care Physical Therapy Practice Analysis with the Subject Matter Expert Task Force of the Academy of Acute Care Physical Therapy.

I am also working with a community therapist to investigate the relationship of dynamic standing balance with pitching characteristics in youth baseball players (manuscript preparation).
