Shirley Strong, Director - SMU Office of Diversity and Inclusion
Worldwide populations are experiencing dramatic shifts in home, food, and family security in relation to social and "natural" upheavals and disasters. The SMU Community Reads book selection, Fink's 5 Days at Memorial: Life and Death in a Storm Ravaged Hospital grapples with decisions facing healthcare providers in New Orleans related to Hurricane Katrina. Come view and discuss with your colleagues the moving 15-minute video, The Right to Be Rescued, about disability justice in disasters. Are we prepared? Should identity and social status determine who is left in danger, in misery, even to die?
