Community Outreach

At Samuel Merritt University, you can make a difference in the community from day one. Service is embedded in everything we do, from the classroom to the clinic and beyond.

Service Learning

SMU is committed to developing compassionate health professionals who want to make health care more accessible and equitable for all. One of the ways we teach our students about disparities in the health care field—and give them the tools to reduce those disparities where they find them—is to provide students with enriching, service-learning experiences in the community.

Community outreach is paramount to service learning and SMU has partnerships with area clinics, schools, faith communities, and shelters as well as at remote villages in developing countries. Providing community health education and care to patients in need is part of class projects, faculty research, medical missions, and student club activities.
