About Me
In addition to my expertise in theory (I have developed both a model and a theory) my other area of expertise is addictions. For over 30 years I have been the Editor-in-Chief of the peer reviewed international journal, the "Journal of Addictions Nursing." I am an active consultant for the CA BRN advising them on nurses with mental health issues and impaired practice.
I retired from SMU as a full Professor in 2006 after 25 years of teaching, and conducting research. In 2015, I was inducted into the American Academy of Nursing, for my transformative contributions to the addictions field: I was a co-editor of a seminal text, "Substance Abuse: Pharmacologic, Developmental and Clinical Perspectives" and I was the co-founder of the Journal of Addictions Nursing.
