About Me

I am the course manager for Mental Health Nursing (N-129) at the San Francisco Peninsula Campus.   I have added Mental Health First Aid tm to the mental health class, giving the student a broader understanding and increased skill set for working in mental health emergencies. I also have introduced guest speakers from Safety Management And Response Techniques, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, Alcoholics Anonymous, and Mission Hospice to help with affective learning.   I instruct in the synthesis class; monitoring the preceptorships and helping the students to see themselves as professional nurses through discussion and student presentations. I also provide simulation classes in Motivational Interviewing and Therapeutic communication. 

Education

I initially earned my Psychiatric Technician Certificate in the late 70’s then worked inpatient at a state developmental center.  In the mid 90’s I earned my Associate in Applied Science in Nursing & Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I continued to work in the mental health field as well as teaching at a proprietary health education school until 2008 when I had earned my Master of Science in Nursing Education and stated teaching at Samuel Merritt University.
