I am a passionate health care professional and educator. I love teaching and find some of the best rewards in seeing my colleagues grow and learn.
The majority of my career has been in emergency medicine, but I currently practice as a nurse practitioner in both an urgent care and a county health clinic. In my primary care practice I am working to set up an HIV clinic for the county of Stanislaus as well as an LGTBQ specific clinic.
I am an openly gay male who is Hispanic. I have been married since 2008 and was one of the first in the country to receive same-sex benefits from the VA for being married to a disabled veteran. We lived through the whole prop 8 situation and came out stronger.
I love working with students and with other professionals and look forward to working my students.
I initially received my ASN from a small community college in San Jose, CA named Evergreen Valley College. I then attended the California State University, Chico for their online RN to BSN program. I attended Samuel Merritt University for my Master's degree and FNP. I am currently pursuing my Doctor of Nursing Practice at Samuel Merritt.
I am passionate about teaching advanced health assessment. I believe that the greatest tool that any medical professional has, is their assessment skills. I am also passionate about Trauma and emergency medicine. My background is in emergency and urgent care and look forward to also teaching EKG interpretation, and other procedural skills the nurse practitioner needs to be successful.
My Bachelor's work revolved around work place violence prevention in emergency nursing. My Master's and my Doctoral work focus heavily on the LGBTQ populations. I am an advocate for increasing sexual orientation and gender identity information in the primary care setting so that we can actively work to reduce disparities for the LGBTQ community.
