N672 Professional Role Development for Advanced Nursing Practice

About Me

I became a Nurse Practitioner in 2004 as a result of seeing too many preventable conditions in the Emergency Department where I worked as an RN. Providing quality primary care, especially to our most vulnerable populations, is the best move we can make to improve the health of our communities. Ensuring that all people have access to quality healthcare is a priority. A community is only as healthy as its sickest member. I have been a member of the California Association for Nurse Practitioners since 2002 and am active in our local Alameda/Contra Costa Chapter where I currently serve on the Board of Directors. In State positions, I am Speaker of the House for 2018, 2022, & 2024. I have a son and daughter who are both in college. In my spare time, I enjoy being outdoors and right now I have too many home improvement projects! I enjoy gardening, sewing, traveling, and spending quality time with friends and family.

Education

I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from California State University, Fresno in 1994 and concurrently trained in trauma at Stanford Hospital E2 ICU. After 10 years in ICU & ED work, I earned my Master's Degree in Nursing and Family Nurse Practitioner from Sonoma State University in 2004. Finally, I earned my Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Samuel Merritt University in 2022.

Teaching Interests

I am excited to be on a path of teaching in the FNP Program and being a resource for students. I am driven to work on projects that advance the role of the Nurse Practitioner while improving access to and quality of health care in the community. There are so many improvements to be made and we can do this one step at a time.
