Describe yourself in 10 words or less.
When did you decide you wanted to pursue a career in health sciences?
Since high school, I have always been torn between teaching and nursing. It wasn't until my migraines starting getting worse, and my emergency room visits became more frequent, that I decided nursing was the right profession for me. I had so many nurses that went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable, the unconditional compassion was very motivating for me to enter the field.
Why did you choose SMU?
Every nurse that I talked to in the field had amazing things to say about the students that came out of SMU. The students that I was able to talk to also had great things to say about the school, as well as, the level of preparedness that they felt exiting the program.
What has been you favorite class or experience?
So far my favorite class is Pathophysiology. I enjoy this class more than the others because it is challenging. I find myself spending more time with that class and as a result I really enjoy it.
What's your favorite thing to do when not in class or studying?
I love going on vacation. I love to go camping or taking a quick trip up to Tahoe. Anything were I get to spend quality time with my family and friends.
What is one thing you'd like to tell a new student just entering your program?
Enjoy the time you have in the program. It goes by quickly. Really pay attention to time management. If you study a little bit everyday, it's all really manageable. Take time for yourself. You may not realize how important it is, but taking a day to do something not school related really helps your overall attitude remain positive.
