SMU recognizes the importance to individual faculty and staff for a balanced life among issues related to family, health, work and civic responsibility. Occasionally, members of the SMU community will need time off from work to address these issues. Through its leave of absence policies, the University provides faculty and staff a mechanism whereby a leave of absence can be requested and granted, within the appropriate requirements of the law. The leave of absence policies demonstrate the University's commitment as employer of choice in supporting members of the SMU community.
