Cisco Jabber Installation Instructions
In order to use your new Jabber Softphone, if you do not have it already installed, you will need to install Cisco Jabber.
Cisco Jabber is a unified communications program that lets you access presence, instant messaging (IM), voice.
Cisco Jabber is available for PC, Mac, Android, iOS. The latest PC and Mac clients are available here:
- Cisco Jabber for Windows - (software is available in software center)
- Cisco Jabber for Mac – (software is available in software center)
The mobile device clients (for Android and iOS) are available on their respective Application Stores (Google Play or App Store).
Once the application is installed, you will need to sign in.
If it is your first time using Cisco Jabber on a device, you may need to enter your SMU email address (ex. John.Smith@samuelmerritt.edu) after opening the application. You should then be directed to a SMU login page where you can enter your SMU Username and SMU Password, then click “Log In”.
Upon signing in, you will have access to the instant messaging and WebEx functions of Cisco Jabber.
In order to use the Cisco Jabber program as a phone, you need to go into the options/settings and enter your SMU Username and SMU Password under the Phone Services section. The phone functions of Cisco Jabber are currently only available on campus or when connected to the VPN.
- On Windows clients, you can click File->Options->Accounts and enter your credentials.
- On Mac clients, open the preferences window, select Accounts, select Phone Services, then enter your credentials.
These credentials are not automatically updated so if you change your SMU password, you will need to update the password in Cisco Jabber as well.
