About the Health Education Center (HEC)
The Health Education Center (HEC), located at 400 Hawthorne Avenue, provides facilities and services that enhance the University experience for SMU students and educators. We also provide an attractive yet functional setting designed to support events, meetings and conferences for the University, Alta Bates Summit Medical Center, and the community. Our users can expect outstanding customer service in a safe and pleasant University environment.
The primary purpose of the University classroom facilities located within the Health Education Center (HEC) is to serve the University community. Regularly scheduled University classes take first priority for space, followed by University meetings and events. Alta Bates Summit Medical Center / Sutter Health and its affiliates are next on the priority ladder, followed by all other outside organizations.

How to Get to the HEC Building
From MOB (3100 Telegraph Avenue) ~ From Telegraph Avenue, head up Hawthorne Avenue, cross Elm Street and continue up the hill. Turn left onto the HEC building pathway and follow it to our front entrance.
From SMU (450 30th Street) ~ Enter the garage walkway, walk to the other side to exit onto Hawthorne Avenue and cross the street. Walk onto the HEC building pathway and follow it to our front entrance
From Garage (3100 Summit Street) ~ Exit onto Hawthorne Avenue and cross the street. Walk onto the HEC building pathway and follow it to our front entrance
From ABSMC (3100 Summit Street) ~ Walk along Summit Street toward Hawthorne Avenue. At Hawthorne Avenue, cross the street and go left. Make a slight right onto the HEC buidling pathway and follow it to our front entrance.
