Our new strategic plan for 2024 - 2027

Eric D. Stamps, DPM | Feb 15, 2024

In 2023, with input from 36 key alumni stakeholders, we developed a new strategic plan for 2024 – 2027. That plan includes five strategic themes (student success, higher enrollment, program excellence, program identity, and culture & infrastructure) and nine targets, each with several tactics.  Some of our targets that we plan on meeting before 2027:

  1. Meet or exceed the SMUCPM APMLE Part I benchmark of 90% 1st time pass rate
  2. Increase the matriculant yield by 10% each year
  3. Increase local and regional applicant pipelines
  4. Develop a SMUCPM faculty/college practice clinic
  5. Develop a center of biomechanics and sports medicine excellence
  6. Strengthen the clinical sciences curriculum
  7. Expand SMUCPM’s social media presence

We’ve already been making progress on our strategic plan:

  1. The SMU Motion Analysis Research Center, one of the largest and most comprehensive on the west coast, is now under the umbrella of the College of Podiatric Medicine.  This means that you will be seeing more podiatric biomechanics and sports medicine research coming from SMUCPM faculty and students.
  2. The second-year curricular schedule will be be decompressed for fall 2024, adding one half day for didactics, without sacrificing clinic hours and without reducing clinical faculty salaries.
  3. An articulation agreement with a local university is ready for final execution.  This means that students from that institution will have a more-direct link to enrolling in SMUCPM.
  4. Members of our Alumni and Associates Board of Directors are now contacting each of our applicants to answer questions and address concerns that they may have.

We have many more improvements on the way.  Stay tuned.
