SMU Honors Outstanding Individuals and Initiatives

Samuel Merritt University (SMU) recently recognized exceptional contributions to the university community and beyond during its annual holiday reception on December 4, 2024. Several Presidential Awards for Outstanding Service and Leadership, Strommen-Dillashaw Awards and Scott Beamer Awards were presented to individuals and teams who have demonstrated outstanding service, leadership, and innovation. 

Presidential Awards for Outstanding Service and Leadership 

Faculty Award: Dr. Raymond Prior, Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing, was honored for his innovative curriculum development, supportive leadership, and positive influence on colleagues and students. 

Staff Award: Tavi Baker, Associate Director of the Center for Community Engagement, was recognized for her tireless efforts in promoting equity, inclusion, and community service. Baker’s leadership has been instrumental in fostering a culture of giving back and making a positive impact on the community. 

Student Award: Victoria Campfield, a Doctor of Physical Therapy student, was honored for her outstanding leadership and commitment to diversity and inclusion. Campfield has been a driving force behind initiatives such as the Black Student Union and the PT Moves Me program. 

Strommen-Dillashaw Award 

The prestigious Strommen-Dillashaw Award, recognizing exemplary commitment to student development and community engagement, was presented to Dr. Chi-Kwan Shea, a professor in the Occupational Therapy program. Dr. Shea was lauded for her unwavering dedication to student success and her invaluable mentorship. 

Scott Beamer Award 

The Scott Beamer Award, which recognizes community service projects, was presented to the following individuals and teams:
